Flexibility is key...
I work with my clients to build in flexibility to their daily and/or weekly schedules in case they get a last minute work assignment, the kid gets sick or their elderly parent falls and is rushed to the ER. Well, today it paid off for me. My daughter's school bus was running really late, so we and the other parents and kids waiting, hopped the subway to get o school on time. Since I was just headed to the gym after she got on the bus, I had the flexibility to do this. Having kids, makes flexibility a must.

In the kitchen on Thursday.. A recipe from a friend.
Last night I made Chicken and Rice from the Family Plate Cookbook by Marie Isner and my family loved it.
Full Disclosure: Marie is not only my health coach but also a dear friend. My hat goes off to her for writing a cookbook.
To purchase the cookbook at Amazon, click the link below.

(P.S.I made the Italian Meatball recipe too and thought it to be better than the one in the Joy of Cooking.)

Time to go or not?
Yesterday I took my daughter ice skating (her new found favorite activity) and told her we would leave at a certain time only to realize that there was no real reason we needed to be home, so I let her skate till she was done and when I was done , I got a cup of coffee and read a book on my Iphone and learned that sometimes it is better to let a kid decide for themselves when to stop than drag him/her kicking and screaming the hole way home.

The power of networking.......
Over lunch, I met the editor of Daisy magazine and today I signed a contract to be a contributing writer and this along with seeing my byline in previous issues has sent me over the top (and also the editor and I really get along).

A big shove goes a long way....
I don't normally exercise on the weekends, but today I put on my ankle weights and took a walk in Prospect Park, since my daughter said this morning "Whoever has the largest waist has to go to the gym today" and I was it, so on my way out the door I told her thank you (sometimes you need a big push to head in the right direction).

A daily does of inspiring your child...
Stephanie Thompson in her Fearless Parenting column (The Brooklyn Paper) talks about the importance of parents inspiring their kids, and not only is she right, but we can do it on a daily basis by being authentic, kind, respectful, and compassionate, so our kids learn these values from us (as the saying goes, "Actions speak louder than words.")

The only kid in a grown-up world
Last weekend we celebrated my great-uncle's 93rd birthday and my daughter explained that she left the table because the conversation had been "adult" and she didn't feel included and once I got over the shock of her level of emotional expression, I realized that as the only child there she was right and we needed to do a better job of including her (maybe after seeing the baseball game this weekend, she'll be able to be a part of a discussion on the history of the sport and its greatest players).
(P.S. My uncle was talking about how he met Jackie Robinson through his work in PR.)

It is finally spring out...
Today I got my first iced coffee of the warm weather seasons and took a walk in a local park, where I brainstormed, listened to good music, partook of some overdue sunshine and hopefully burned a few calories—a great way to start the weekend.
